Dear Community Leaders:
Members of the Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (NuPAC) include public agencies, school, faith based and community health organizations dedicated to decreasing obesity and improving healthy eating and physical activity among all Orange County families and communities. I would like to share with you an exciting, new initiative that NuPAC is undertaking: Move More, Eat Healthy OC. This multi-year campaign is a county-wide effort to engage more partners to make a greater commitment to increasing the percentage of healthy weight residents in all populations of Orange County. It builds on the existing Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan by establishing specific partnership criteria (attached) for organizations in each sector to commit to in 2011. Our plan is to announce this campaign and recognize our community partners at the Orange County Obesity Summit: “Making Connections - Move More, Eat Healthy OC” to be held on May 26, 2011 at California State University, Fullerton.
Recent data shows that in spite of all the great work going on in Orange County to increase healthy eating and active living, the rate of overweight and obesity is rising in young children and is not declining in adults. This has a tremendous impact on the health and productivity of our community members. Our goal is to make the Move More, Eat Healthy OC campaign an effective call to action so Orange County can start to bend the curve on obesity.
NuPAC invites your organization to participate as a partner in the Campaign. I would appreciate if you could complete the Partner Commitment Forms linked below and fax it to Michele Martinez at 714-899-3824. Michele is available to answer any questions that you may have at 714-380-4339.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make all Orange County cities healthy.
